Mel "Keeper" Hopkins

Mel, dubbed “Keeper” by her Minx teammates, is from Richmond, VA and moved up to Minnesota for college. She has played soccer from middle school until college, playing goalkeeper at the NCAA Division 3 level for Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, as well as playing goaltender and defenseman for the same university for lacrosse. Martial arts were also a big part of her athletic career, having gained her black-belt in taekwondo and being an instructor to both kids and adults. After graduating college, Mel took a couple years off to recoup from the rigorous college sports experience before finding out about women’s tackle football. She had grown up watching both college and NFL football, always wanting to participate but only allowed to toss the ball around in the backyard with friends and family, and was ecstatic to be able to join. This will be her second season with the Minx and she is very excited to continue this journey with the program.
